TREES WATER AND PEOPLE

From March through June 2026, Trees, Water & People demonstrated both organizational maturity and deepening programmatic reach. The period opened with TWP closing its 27th fiscal year on a record high — nine consecutive years of growth, its largest-ever team, and more funding sent to partners than in any prior year. That momentum carried into a spring and early summer defined by Indigenous-led stewardship: the Traditional Harvest Project supported Ute Mountain Ute Tribe members in culturally significant cottonwood harvests along the Dolores River; the Maestros Fogoneros program continued installing Justa 3D cookstoves in Honduras, reducing firewood use by 50–70% for thousands of families; and 30 hectares of community forest were reforested in Oaxaca with 20 women artisans. A knowledge exchange in Jutiapa, Honduras convened 16 community-based organizations, while 16 TWP partner organizations completed a two-year organizational strengthening process. The "Rooted: A Story of Rematriation" film toured multiple venues — Cortez, Telluride, and beyond — anchoring a sustained public narrative around Indigenous land access and sovereignty.
