Mission Statement
HOUSTON FOOD BANK'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR BETTER LIVES. LAST YEAR WE PROVIDED ACCESS TO 123 MILLION NUTRITIOUS MEALS IN 18 COUNTIES IN SOUTHEAST TEXAS THROUGH OUR 1,600 COMMUNITY PARTNERS WHICH INCLUDES FOOD PANTRIES, SOUP KITCHENS, SOCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND SCHOOLS. IN ADDITION TO DISTRIBUTING FOOD, WE PROVIDE SERVICES AND CONNECTIONS TO PROGRAMS THAT ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSES OF HUNGER AND ARE AIMED AT HELPING FAMILIES ACHIEVE LONG-TERM STABILITY, INCLUDING NUTRITION EDUCATION, JOB TRAINING, HEALTH MANAGEMENT, AND HELP WITH SECURING STATE-FUNDED ASSISTANCE.

From March through June 2026, Houston Food Bank demonstrated both the breadth and depth of its food security mission across Southeast Texas. The period opened with a 1.1-million-pound fresh vegetable distribution goal and National Nutrition Month programming, then accelerated into April with a high-impact food rescue operation — 30 volunteers recovering 20,352 lbs of food from the Grocers Supply Spring Selling Show — alongside the launch of a composting partnership with Zero Waste Houston. May brought milestone celebrations: the 20th anniversary of Empty Bowls Houston and the organization's first-ever Volunteer Service Awards, as the 100,000-unique-volunteer recruitment goal gained momentum. June closed the period with a major fundraising achievement — Houston Restaurant Weeks 2025 raised $1,651,698 — while Kids Cafe summer meals launched and the SNAP Summer Tour began mobile enrollment stops across Texas.
