From March through June 2026, Helen Keller International demonstrated extraordinary reach while navigating a severe funding crisis triggered by the abrupt closure of USAID, which eliminated a third of the organization's operating budget and put more than 100 million people at risk. Despite this disruption, the organization's Transforming Lives Through Nutrition program reached 29.5+ million people in its first year across 12 countries, and vitamin A supplementation was delivered to 47+ million children across 14 African nations. The PRO Initiative enabled temporary restarts of malnutrition treatment in nine Nepal districts and four Nigerian states — programs previously serving 5.6 million children. Advocacy gains at the 79th World Health Assembly, including commitments from 30+ countries to expand micronutrient supplements for pregnant women and Sierra Leone's landmark policy adoption, marked a significant policy milestone. The launch of the Operation End Starvation coalition in June signaled a new phase of philanthropic mobilization.
